About Us

Captain Kim began his sailing journey in 1991 as a student himself.   After learning to sail with his wife and children, he eventually purchased "Paradigm," a 35' C&C sloop and "Dorothy's Gail," a vintage 1964, restored Columbia 37' sloop.  Each summer family vacations were spent cruising up the coast of Lake Michigan from Holland to Mackanaw Island, rain or shine.  These trips, along with regular day sails and shorter weekend trips provided Captain Kim with a range of experiences at sea.  Over time, Captain Kim also participated in sailboat races, challenging his skills even more.  All along the way, he continued to advance his knowledge through further ASA (American Sailing Association) certified courses, eventually obtaining all 6 levels of ASA certification.  He also went on to obtain the 100 Ton U.S. Coast Guard license with a sailing endorsement.  

Captain Kim founded GT Sailing School in 2001.  He, along with his fellow instructors are dedicated to constant improvement and enhancement of their services. Each client is a valued customer, and an opportunity to improve the delivery of their services.
